Is it OK to Take Coffee Enemas with High Blood Pressure?

The title of this article was a question I asked myself after a doctor diagnosed high blood pressure when I was teaching overseas.  I had, up to then, regularly enjoyed the benefits of coffee enemas in cleansing my liver of toxins and impurities.  Now I wasn’t sure-wouldn’t coffee (which is not good for those on high blood pressure) further affect the blood pressure?

I was not able to do proper research as I was busy trying to recover from the stressful  teaching situation I found myself in, and did not have a lot of spare time anyway to research properly.  I spoke to the natural health specialist who had originally recommended the use of coffee enemas to me and she said that since the major function of the enemas was to detoxify the liver, it should not affect me.  I also saw in the publication from the company that I originally got the enemas from, that many cases of people having high blood pressure had been helped by using the enemas.  The publication about detoxification using the coffee enemas also recommended lowering the normal three tablespoons of coffee used for the enema solution to two + to throw in an organic chamomile tea bag for those with worries about it affecting their blood pressure.

Thus emboldened I proceeded to have my first enema in at least six months. I did use the chamomile tea bag. Lo and behold I did not have the anticipated racing heart or any untoward effects.  I felt okay the next day too, after taking the supplements for natural detoxification that I wrote about in an earlier post.

However the following week when I had an enema, I did experience some racing of heart symptoms so I discontinued the enemas.  When I went for a checkup finally with my doctor my blood pressure was down from what it had been when I was overseas and he took me off the blood pressure medication for ten days asking me to come back to see what the blood pressure was doing.   Result after ten days:my blood pressure as still normal so I was able to come off the medication.

So I can say I certainly benefited from taking the enemas in the past and and have answered my own question. I will need to probably write a further article or update on whether the coffee enemas actually help reduce high blood pressure but that will have to wait until I return to the potentially stressful environment of completing my teaching stint and then, on return to my home country, visit my own doctor again to check me over and take my blood pressure as I do not own any blood pressure monitors for home use.

In Curezone.com a commentator days: “I have not taken a coffee enema for a few months because I was worried about raising my blood pressure which is under control, i.e. less than 120/70. But, I just did a quart of coffee for 20 minutes and checked my b.p. several times during the waiting period. It did rise somewhat to about 140/85 max. Possibly part of this was the fact that enemas tend to be stimulating and perhaps somewhat sensual…not the reason that I do them. I enjoy them for the way they make me feel healthy and refreshed. So enjoy!” in response to the thread on “Blood pressure and Coffee enemas” (paraphrased for space)

In the same thread somebody refers to the book Detoxify or Die
by Sherry Rogers.  I just read the summary in Amazon where the reviewer says “There is now no question that accumulated toxins are behind nearly every disease, symptom, injury and malfunction of the body.”  I say a hearty Amen to that and will look at adding this book to my library.

As I am not a doctor ,though, I would say that you should advise your doctor when taking the enemas, do not discontinue any medication you nay be taking and let the doctor adjust your high blood pressure medication as he sees fit.

What are the Long term Benefits of Coffee Enemas?

Where to Buy Coffee Enema Kits

Coffee Enema Kits from Amazon

One of my readers asks the question in  a previous article “A Coffee Enema Detox Diary” -“what have you found are the long term benefits of coffee enemas that you have experienced?”  This article is an attempt to answer that question.

Click here for Coffee Enema Kits

I think, as long as you don’t go overboard with them, there are definite long-term benefits. The first is an increase in energy. As you cleanse out the toxins from your body, particularly the liver area-and a good colon cleanse is sometimes also necessary-with the coffee enemas, you are giving your body some breathing space.

I am now 50 an find I have a lot more energy than I did at 45, when I was beginning to suffer the unwanted effects of toxic build-up in my body. Stress, not drinking or cigarettes, was the main cause, so if I had engaged in those two activities too, I believe my condition would have been a lot worse.

The other thing is that I believe your mental capabilities are enhanced, although since I am not a doctor, I can’t prove this has anything to do with the coffee enemas but any people say this who take organic coffee enemas.

kimchi

Kimchi anyone?

But it is important to remember that it wasn’t just coffee enemas that brought about my current state. I also changed my diet-as I realized I had a toxic body from a combination of fast food, fizzy drinks and the stress of being a salesman and main breadwinner. At this present time I am in Korea where they eat almost no fat.

Meat is hugely expensive, the bread tastes pretty bland and horrible (most Koreans don’t eat it) and I don’t drink a lot of milk these days (like the Koreans) so diet -wise I am probably inadvertently also following a good diet solution.  Their local favorite, kimchi (fermented cabbage) has got some health benefits similar to probiotics (I am told by my Korean friend-who is not a doctor either, and I have not been able to research this).  By the way- kimchi so far has had no perceived health benefits  for me-it tastes vile but I will eat it if I am served it!

Also I try to exercise with an high intensity workout 2 or 3 times a week. It sounds dramatic, but basically I do a few fitness routines at home and run up a hill near my house and climb wearily down!

If I feel (and you do get to feel in yourself after a while of taking coffee enemas) slightly groggy and “gluggy” in my insides (by which I mean the liver and kidneys) I either fast a meal or two and take some apple cider vinegar with hot water or I take a coffee enema or two and that usually makes me feel better.

I think the other benefit of this kind of lifestyle is that you keep your insides clean. I have had virtually no diarrhea since living in Korea, after being told I could expect it as an automatic thing as a visitor. Oh , And avoid the local tap water if you live in most major cities of the world, including Seoul, where everybody seems to have bottled water to drink! I want to avoid heavy metals poisoning which might necessitate a heavy metals detox, something one should consider if you are always feeling lethargic, you’ve been to the doctor and eliminated other possibilities and still find that nothing seems to shake it (even exercise) -especially if it is the case that you also have mercury fillings in your mouth.

So yes-there are health benefits to coffee enemas but not in isolation. I also keep a supply of organic enema coffeeon hand for my liver detox. and ensure the enema bucket is clean and I have a supply of organic coffee for enemas. And I also try and eat well and exercise

Eat All Natural Foods and Avoid Food Poisoning

Why A Natural Food Diet is the Way to Go

A detox diet, heavy metal detoxification or at the very least a natural food diet  maybe what you need if you, like many Americans, are exposed to pathogens in your food. According to a 2009 New York Times report even the major food manufacturers are unable to vouch for the safety of our food. As the report states:

“In addition to ConAgra, other food giants like Nestlé and the Blackstone Group, a New York firm that acquired the Swanson and Hungry-Man brands years ago, concede that they cannot ensure the safety of items — from frozen vegetables to pizzas — and that they are shifting the burden to the consumer.

Beware :No-One Can Vouch for Your Food Safety

Food producers and manufacturers are simply not able to vouch for the safety of food delivered to you simply because there are too many players and entry points for microbes.  Some of them don’t even do their own testing.  So groups like the Grocery Manufacturers Association say it is “not practical,” to check on all the food. For one thing most of them don’t know who all the companies are that provide all the ingredients!

On top of these safety concerns, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) only inspects domestic food production facilities once every five to 10 years, while foreign facilities get looked at even less, according to the Consumers Union.

This is obviously not up to scratch as 2/3 of Americans surveyed said  the FDA should inspect domestic and foreign food-processing facilities at least once a month.

Other problems that Americans are having to consider now are the worries over lower and lower food quality due to:

  • Genetic modification
  • Irradiation of foods
  • Pesticides, hormones, antibiotics and other additives thrown in during the growing period
  • Mass-production and unsanitary and inhumane agricultural practices

That number on the side of your pizza box indicating temperature?  That isn’t a suggestion- it is the ONLY temperature that is apparently safe for that food to be eaten and tests have shown not all food e.g pies- cook evenly.

Some food manufacturers take the “kill step” and nuke the food to kill every possible microbe and in so doing make the food tasteless and of little nutritional value.

So what to do?  Well the first thing is to educate yourself as to where your food comes from.  One site I looked at recommended you visit LocalHarvest.org which will point you in the right direction to find farmers’ markets, family farms, and other places you can buy safe and sustainably grown food in your area.

Why Eat Organic?

You may want to consider organic farming methods or even finding out more about how to build a raised garden bed , for example.  If your food is organically and has a good source you obviously will not need to nuke it to death, it will not be processed and so will have less toxins or at least minimal toxins from the environment and other sources and will be nutritious.

Total Wellness Cleanse You may want to consider a total wellness cleanse like Yuri Elkaim’s which is the only guided cleanse of its kind in America and one that uses all natural foods. What’s good about the Total Wellness Cleanse is that it offers keys to “take out the trash” from your (toxic) body.

He points out that although the U.S spends a huge amount on healthcare (about a quarter of its budget I seem to remember he said-but have not checked this recently though) it only ranks 74th in the world in terms of overall public health, behind countries like Albania.  He puts it down to our western diet which helps you to store fat and introduces modern chemicals that poison our bodies;as he says, a lot of the diseases we are getting today (including cancer) our ancestors (even 100 years ago) hardly ever fell prey to as they enjoyed natural whole foods and did not need to concern themselves with detoxifying the body as we do today.

I have taken up a job in a new country recently (in Asia) and am finding it really hard to find healthy ingredients in the megalopolis I now live in.  But I am making it a priority.

If your condition is really bad and you have a toxic body you may need to consider something like a heavy metal detox along with following a natural detox foods diet.

The Total Wellness Cleanse for a New You

Total Wellness Cleanse Many people, as we head into a new year, are looking for body cleanse diet, detox diet or diet solutions,  trying to compensate for the over-indulging during the holiday season.  On Natural Detox Tips we try to present the best natural detox solutions.

Many involve a colon cleanse or enema.  This may not be your cup of tea.  The good news is that there is an easy-to-follow cleanse that you can do for home that doesn’t involve buying any detox products.  After 14 days you have a healthy food maintenance program to follow.  Simple. It’s called   Total Wellness Cleanse.

Who is Total Wellness Cleanse For?

You may be thinking “This is just what I have been looking for”  Well that’s great but first, you need to know there are a of of people that are not suitable for the Total Wellness Cleanse.

This is what Yuri Elkaim, the founder of Total Wellness Cleanse, says when he was asked:”Who is this cleanse for?” and here’s what he said…:  “It’s not for people who are looking for …quick fixes, ridiculous detox pills, or unhealthy master cleanse-like solutions that produce absolutely no long-term health or weight loss benefit!”

He continued…”Our cleanse is ONLY for those who are serious about their HEALTH. It is for those who value learning more about their health and how their body functions.  The big problem nowadays is that people are so focused on losing weight that they forget about  how their decisions are affecting their health. In my 12 years of helping people transform their  lives, I have always focused on improving the health of the individual – it just so happens  that weight loss, having more energy, and eating healthier are inevitable side effects.”

What Yuri said is why we support and endorse his Total Wellness Cleanse program…It’s not just another set of pills or short-term fix that does nothing for you in the long run.

On the contrary, his cleansing diet is just that – a cleansing DIET. It is a whole food-based
approach that will show you step-by-step how to eat to cleanse your body of years of toxic
build-up.

1. What makes this cleanse different from all the others?

The Total Wellness Cleanse is one of the very FEW if only, guided cleanses in America -as far as we know-that is completely natural and food based. Although there are many different detox products on the market, the program is a holistic approach to healing and cleansing your body through food and lifestyle improvements.

Their unique approach is based on years of experience (and great results) with personal clients and that (the site owners affirm-we have not checked this out yet) is verified by the leading cleanse/detox experts and scientific data.

Perhaps more importantly, their program is pretty much the ONLY one that will give you daily support via email.  They stay your side 100% of the way to keep you  motivated and on-track.

2. What do I need for this cleanse and how long is it?

Other than food and water, you don’t need much. A blender and juicer are helpful but are not  required.  30 days is how long it takes. The first 14 days are the “cleanse phase” and the second 2 weeks are the maintenance  phase. So, in reality, the real cleanse is 14 days. It’s all explained in the program and easy  to follow.

4. Will I be sold any detox or cleanse products?

Ans: No! Their approach is through dietary and lifestyle improvements – not “magic formulas”.

5. Who shouldn’t do this cleanse?

The 30-day guided cleanse is suitable for any healthy individual. However, to avoid toxins being  transferred to the fetus/habit is not recommended for regnant or breast-feeding mothers do the cleanse.  Also,  if you suffer from a serious illness such as cancer or cardiovascular disease,it is required by Total Wellness cleanse for you to consult with your
medical doctor first.

6. Will I lose weight on this cleanse?

Most likely yes. As your body releases excess  toxins, your fat cells (which store the toxins) will diminish in size.  Also, because you won’t be eating excessive amounts
of calories you may create a caloric deficit if you’re an active individual.  This, in turn, will also help you lose weight.

7. What if I don’t want to lose weight?

That’s fine tool. Most people who cleanse, while wanting to maintain their weight, might lose a  few pounds (usually less than 5 lbs) but that’s about it.

The key to maintaining your weight on  our cleanse is to ensure you incorporate regular
strength training and follow a clean diet that  provides sufficient calories. You’ll get both of
these components with Total Wellness cleanse.

Try Total Wellness Cleanse

8. What other results can I expect?

All people are slightly different but the results most commonly reported to the team are fat loss, clear and radiant skin, much more energy, greater capacity to exercise with faster recovery, and general improvements in health (based on a number of markers including blood sugar levels, blood lipids, pH, and others).  Most people who do the  cleanse also experience improved mental clarity and better concentration.

9. Can age be a factor in determining if you should do
the cleanse?

Not at all. The cleanse will teach you how to eat properly and any age group can benefit from that information.

10. What happens after the 30 days are up?

You are given an 8 week maintenance meal plan and recipes as part of the cleanse that you can follow after the original 14 day cleansing period. This will give you enough time to be able to change your dietary lifestyle going forward.

11. What if I currently have a medical condition? Will this cleanse be suitable and okay for me to use?

First and foremost, consult your physician before starting any cleansing program. However since the nature of the program is really about making much healthier dietary choices, people from all walks of life will be able to benefit.  Diabetics can do the cleanse but you need to check the instructions in the program pertaining to your condition , and also check with your doctor

12. I travel quite often; will I still be able to do the Cleanse?

Yes. The key is being prepared with what you need for your trip before you travel, i.e. grocery list, proper foods. The knowledge you will acquire in the cleanse will also help you make healthy “cleansing” choices while eating on the road.

13. What If I need further assistance throughout the
cleanse?

Not to worry, you’ll receive daily coaching emails with on-going support, inspiration, and
answers to your questions. Furthermore, you are provided with  more personalized support on a Facebook page which all cleanse members have access to.

14. Can I exercise while on the cleanse?

Yes. You can exercise while on the cleanse and it is certainly helpful if you’re looking to lose weight. Just be aware that working out during the 14-day cleanse phase may be more challenging as  you’ll have fewer sugars and calories to use as fuel.

Supplements and Exercise to Assist Natural Detoxification

Supplements and Other Considerations when doing a Detoxification Program

Supplements and Exercise for Natural DetoxificationAs you embark on your natural detox, natural detoxification program, liver detox or body detox, you will no doubt be advised, or become aware, of the fact that you need to take some kind of supplements with the program, as well as look after the fitness aspect.  With supplements we of course recommend natural health supplements and natural food supplements when your aim is to detoxify the body or do something like a liver detox.

Why take supplements When Doing a Liver Detox?

The goal of good natural detoxification program is to eliminate toxins from the body.  Toxins can enter your body both externally (for example from polluted air around us) or internally (for example from processed food).

Exercise causes you to sweat and any products that help you to excrete toxins through the sweat, such as a fitness rebounder, are useful adjuncts to any detoxification program.

If you are using coffee enemas it is a good idea to do a colon cleanse first-so says Kristina Amelong a long-time practitioner of enemas, as mentioned in the post safety of coffee enemas.

Also natural food supplements are very important, because as discussed in the same post, the electrolytes in your body need to be replaced when doing natural detoxification with coffee enemas.

When I do the periodic natural liver detox with coffee enemas I will typically take the following supplements.  Firstly,a cleansing drink consisting of a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, a teaspoon of honey and a large teaspoon of a psyllium product that is used for cleansing out the colon (similar to this Intestinal Cleanser With Psyllium #9 10 oz) , all mixed in a glass of warm slightly heated distilled water.   This is followed by a  drink that assists in tissue building, consisting of Spirulina by AmerMed - 60 Capsules3 teaspoons of spirulina powder (or 3 tablets if in tablet form) and, of course, pure distilled water which has been slightly warmed up. Along with this (after the coffee enemas are administered) I take a health drink consisting of a mixture of carrots and apple juice made in a good juicer such as the Breville 800jexl Juicer.  You then mix with one sachet of Super Green food. You can get this online from places like House of Nutrition.

As part of my regular liver detox with coffee enemas I always drink only pure, distilled water and juices as well as apple cider vinegar with the actual herbal cleansing products that cleanse out the colon whilst I do the detox.  If you cannot afford a water filter then just buy distilled, pure water from a relevant health store or supermarket.  The distilled water is necessary for the coffee enema solution (remember organic coffee only) but is also needed with all the drinks you take during the period of the detox as all the impurities can be flushed out and your body has a chance to recover from the normal foods you have been feeding it.  Juicers are also a great idea.  You don’t want the sweetened,preservative- added stuff from your local supermarket.

At any time during the detox you may also take natural, unsweetened yogurt mixed with a tablespoon of flax seed oil.  The actual diet you follow will depend on what detox program you follow but you can assume that a good program will only recommend natural foods during the detoxification program and immediately after.

Using a Fitness Rebounder

Using a rebounder mini trampoline is an easy way to exercise and it is good for endurance, muscle mass, bone density, circulation, and a lot more.  I don’t like boring trips to the gym and was advised to get one.  You can use it in your office if the ceilings are tall enough!

NASA apparently have done a study on their returning astronauts to find out the best ways to strengthen them post-mission, and they concluded that rebounding is 68% more efficient than jogging when compared to jogging on a treadmill, as well as being safer.  They found that the G-force was almost identical at the angle, back and forehead, “and well below the rupture threshold”. They also found that jogging is much riskier as it focuses most of the stress of impact on the ankle and knee when the foot hits the ground, which naturally will greatly increase the risk of injuries.

Click Here for Mini Trampolines from Online Sports or for more options, check Amazon.

By exercising regularly (and with an urban rebounder you could do it even in your home or office) and supplementing with essential nutrients you protect your body from unwelcome side-effects and consequences when you embark on your natural detoxification program.
