Supplements and Exercise to Assist Natural Detoxification

Supplements and Other Considerations when doing a Detoxification Program

Supplements and Exercise for Natural DetoxificationAs you embark on your natural detox, natural detoxification program, liver detox or body detox, you will no doubt be advised, or become aware, of the fact that you need to take some kind of supplements with the program, as well as look after the fitness aspect.  With supplements we of course recommend natural health supplements and natural food supplements when your aim is to detoxify the body or do something like a liver detox.

Why take supplements When Doing a Liver Detox?

The goal of good natural detoxification program is to eliminate toxins from the body.  Toxins can enter your body both externally (for example from polluted air around us) or internally (for example from processed food).

Exercise causes you to sweat and any products that help you to excrete toxins through the sweat, such as a fitness rebounder, are useful adjuncts to any detoxification program.

If you are using coffee enemas it is a good idea to do a colon cleanse first-so says Kristina Amelong a long-time practitioner of enemas, as mentioned in the post safety of coffee enemas.

Also natural food supplements are very important, because as discussed in the same post, the electrolytes in your body need to be replaced when doing natural detoxification with coffee enemas.

When I do the periodic natural liver detox with coffee enemas I will typically take the following supplements.  Firstly,a cleansing drink consisting of a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, a teaspoon of honey and a large teaspoon of a psyllium product that is used for cleansing out the colon (similar to this Intestinal Cleanser With Psyllium #9 10 oz) , all mixed in a glass of warm slightly heated distilled water.   This is followed by a  drink that assists in tissue building, consisting of Spirulina by AmerMed - 60 Capsules3 teaspoons of spirulina powder (or 3 tablets if in tablet form) and, of course, pure distilled water which has been slightly warmed up. Along with this (after the coffee enemas are administered) I take a health drink consisting of a mixture of carrots and apple juice made in a good juicer such as the Breville 800jexl Juicer.  You then mix with one sachet of Super Green food. You can get this online from places like House of Nutrition.

As part of my regular liver detox with coffee enemas I always drink only pure, distilled water and juices as well as apple cider vinegar with the actual herbal cleansing products that cleanse out the colon whilst I do the detox.  If you cannot afford a water filter then just buy distilled, pure water from a relevant health store or supermarket.  The distilled water is necessary for the coffee enema solution (remember organic coffee only) but is also needed with all the drinks you take during the period of the detox as all the impurities can be flushed out and your body has a chance to recover from the normal foods you have been feeding it.  Juicers are also a great idea.  You don’t want the sweetened,preservative- added stuff from your local supermarket.

At any time during the detox you may also take natural, unsweetened yogurt mixed with a tablespoon of flax seed oil.  The actual diet you follow will depend on what detox program you follow but you can assume that a good program will only recommend natural foods during the detoxification program and immediately after.

Using a Fitness Rebounder

Using a rebounder mini trampoline is an easy way to exercise and it is good for endurance, muscle mass, bone density, circulation, and a lot more.  I don’t like boring trips to the gym and was advised to get one.  You can use it in your office if the ceilings are tall enough!

NASA apparently have done a study on their returning astronauts to find out the best ways to strengthen them post-mission, and they concluded that rebounding is 68% more efficient than jogging when compared to jogging on a treadmill, as well as being safer.  They found that the G-force was almost identical at the angle, back and forehead, “and well below the rupture threshold”. They also found that jogging is much riskier as it focuses most of the stress of impact on the ankle and knee when the foot hits the ground, which naturally will greatly increase the risk of injuries.

By exercising regularly (and with an urban rebounder you could do it even in your home or office) and supplementing with essential nutrients you protect your body from unwelcome side-effects and consequences when you embark on your natural detoxification program.

A coffee enema detox diary

coffee enema detox diary

coffee enema detox diary:picture by Ambrozjo (sxc)

This week I decided to take a few days aside to do my semi-annual detox program and liver cleansing (yes, I do also follow the natural detox tips that I share with my readers!).  I usually use coffee enemas as part of the detox program, as I have found them very effective.  Readers are often interested in practical examples of using these types of enemas. so here is a short diary.

Privately, I am always slightly apprehensive when I come to do the liver cleansing with coffee enemas , which includes a cleansing fast where I do not eat any meat or dairy or yeast products: I always think that I’m going to faint at work or not be able to reach the end of the day without the usual snacks and solid food.  But ,time and gain, I’m amazed how I have managed to get through to the end of the week “intact”, and with energy to spare.  That’s, I believe, because I use supplements with the coffee enemas, as recommended by the natural detoxification program I follow.  Things such as Super Green food, like the Garden of Life Perfect Food Super Green Formula, 600- Grams (60-Servings) and “tissue-building” drinks-you need to supplement properly if you are going on any detox program or diet.

Are coffee enemas safe?

Are Coffee Enemas safe?

Are Coffee Enemas safe

Some people  have taken coffee enemas daily for years without experiencing  problems.  I can only

For A Safer Detox with Coffee Enemas Click here

say that I am a recent enthusiastic convert to them, have used coffee enemas as part of my health regimen intermittently over a two year period, and up to now I have had no problems-only seeing the benefits.  However, one thing I have learned, is they need to be performed correctly.

As the site disclaimer will tell you I am not a medical doctor, so obviously we always advise that it is a good idea to check with your Health Professional first before using coffee enemas (and it would help to find someone who actually knows about using coffee enemas, to start with!).  Having said that, I have personally consulted with a few people more knowledgeable than me on the subject of natural detox tips and coffee enemas, and the following are my findings.  As in most health matters, you need to pay attention to your body and your own state of health, and be informed about what you are doing…

Kristina Amelong of the Optimal Health Network recommends doing a full colon cleanse before having coffee enemas. For a colon cleanse we would recommend something like Ultimate Colon Cleanse or Dr Floras. See the page on Best Colon Cleanse.  Ian Solley, an author in this field advises: “Just a word of caution: .. be careful …(in advising the practice of)…coffee enemas without first doing two weeks of butyrate and peppogest to help liquify the bile sludge in the gall bladder that can occur in some people. If this is not done then you risk actually blocking the bile ducts.”  So although I am not a user of his particular detox product, you may want to consider his advice, as he has a lot of experience in this field.

As I say, I have personally used coffee enemas for a while safely (without taking the two supplements mentioned above) and have not had untoward side effects.  Also, it was made absolutely clear to me on the coffee enemas/detox program I followed, from both the program author, and my friend who coached me on their use, that one should not do the enemas in isolation:the program required you to use supplements. I believe it is essential that you supplement with the right vitamins and minerals and Super green food (which you can get from this site) when you are doing the coffee enemas, otherwise you may get dehydrated and dizzy, apart from any other side effects.  On my natural detox program involving coffee enemas I drank plenty of natural juices and only distilled water in my drinks.  I have read that drinking orange or pineapple juice just before taking the enemas should help with the “electrolytes”.

To learn more about safety of enemas, I wrote to the company in Malaysia, whose detox program I have used (and highly recommend), and one of their team told me  People who intend to do the gallbladder flush (flushing out the gall stones) must do the stones softening for 2 weeks prior to the flush. It is utmost important as unsoftened stones may cause blockage in the duct while being flush out. As for coffee enema, you don’t need to worry”  The gentleman who wrote to me has a BSc in Nutrition but I noted their site also advised you also do check with a Healthcare practitioner.  (By the way I am not advocating or talking about a gallbladder flush in this article.  That is something different).

What are some Side Effects of Coffee Enemas?

Can result in caffeine dependence if taken without care and too much.
* Pregnant or nursing and children should not have coffee enemas.
* If you suffer from some ailments like diverticular disease, Crohn’s disease, congestive heart failure, intestinal tumors and similar ailments you should not have coffee enemas.
* Excessive enemas may cause dehydration.

Opponents of coffee enemas say that coffee enemas pose a potential danger to the rectum, since bowel perforation has been linked to hard insertion devices. However, at the Gerson-oriented clinics, they use a short nozzle, which is not likely to inflict any harm. The one I use is supposed to be inserted only two inches or so. It should be properly lubricated with something like Vitamin E cream. Dr. N. Gonzalez, a proponent of coffee enemas, advocates a soft rubber tube.

Critics often mention the deaths of two Seattle women, which were attributed to fluid and electrolyte abnormalities, following enema overuse. One woman took up to 12 coffee enemas in a single night and then continued at a rate of one per hour. The other took four enemas daily.  To me that sounds fairly ludicrous-but, again, I’m not a doctor, so who am I to say?!  I took two coffee enemas a day only for one period of 6 days and that felt like it was more than sufficient!   Obviously, common sense should prevail in any procedure.

In a coffee enema, the coffee has to be of the regular caffeinated kind and all the reliable sources I have read say it should be organic. The coffee should be about half the strength of coffee used for drinking, and should be served warm, not so hot as to hurt tender tissues, but not so cold that it will bring on cramps.
Kristina Amelong of the Optimal Health Network, responded to my query on the safety of her enemas with this assurance:” In the 12 years of working with colon cleansing, I have never come across it being a health hazard with the proper attention to the details as I have laid them out in my article on Using Enemas Safely. (to view this click on the link below and go to the article): Visit Optimal Health Network for Coffee Enemas

Dr Lawrence Wilson M.D says:”I quickly saw the benefits of coffee enemas. They heal the colon, remove many toxins from the liver and colon, reduce pain and many symptoms of toxicity, and often increase mental clarity as well.”

Dr. William Donald Kelley, D.D.S., M.S., a pioneering anti-cancer researcher, who managed to add years to his life after being diagnosed at an early age with pancreatic cancer, said this of coffee enemas, which were a key part of his anti-cancer regimen: “The coffee enema is very stimulating to the liver and is the greatest aid in elimination of the liver’s toxic wastes…The coffee enema, besides stimulating liver detoxification, also has beneficial effects in cleaning the colon…The proper removal of toxins and debris from the colon is absolutely essential in all conditions of disease and ill health.”

For those interested, he wrote the well-known self-help book: One Answer to Cancer, first published in 1967, and an updated edition, Cancer: Curing the Incurable Without Surgery, Chemotherapy or Radiation (2001).  For Cancer:Curing the Incurable click here

So there you have it-coffee enemas have, I believe, and from what you can learn yourself from the above and other sources, a very significant role in healing and preventing disease and you should not let concerns and fears about the safety of using them (often caused by lack of information or mis-information) outweigh the coffee enemas’ benefits, as I believe these to be substantial.

Natural Detoxification with Coffee Enemas (2)

Effects of Coffee Enemas

As with other enemas, coffee enemas cause peristalsis and encourage the evacuation of the intestine. Increased bile flow also causes the small intestine to become more alkaline.  Many Health professionals and natural health practitioners agree a more alkaline system is necessary for good health.  So this will improve digestion.

Click here to visit Optimal Health Network and learn more about using Coffee Enemas

Another aspect of coffee that is noteworthy is that it has the effect of working like an astringent in the large intestine, assisting cleaning out the walls of the colon.

As stated in our post on Toxic food, one of the main causes of poor health is the production and absorption of toxins within the small and large intestines-usually from poor diet or poor digestion. If food is not digested properly, the sugars end up fermenting and the protein starts to putrefy. This ends up producing toxic chemicals which are then absorbed into your liver.

The coffee enema improves one’s digestion by causing the  bile flow to increase and taking out toxins in the large intestine so they will not be absorbed.  Probably the majority of people with health complaints suffer from impaired digestion and the fact that toxins of some kind are being produced in the intestines.

So why not just drink coffee by the gallon?

benefits of coffee enemasWell, because for a lot of people it just makes you more “hyper” or jittery. My friends told me to avoid drinking it with my particular health condition-but you are different and need to seek your own health advice on that point. I was told to stay off coffee with the external hemorrhoid problem I had, and it does not agree with those who suffer from irritable bowel syndrome and acid reflux, or of a nervous disposition. Dr Jerry Walters, a Gerson therapy exponent, tested the effects of coffee taken both rectally and by mouth. He found that, by mouth coffee contains aromatic acids that irritate and often upset the stomach;rectally, these same aromatics “do no harm”. By mouth, he found that coffee tends to raise blood pressure and cramp capillaries in your extremities (e.g the toes)-the same doesn’t apply to coffee taken rectally. Yes, true, coffee taken orally does seem to help with reducing the risk of some diseases like liver cirrhosis and liver cancer, and it has useful antioxidants-but it is addictive! Most people who are used to getting a “caffeine Buzz” report the opposite with a coffee enema-a calming effect. I confirm that too.

The products I used are only available through network marketing unfortunately, and are expensive to order if you live in Australasia , Europe or the States, and ,at this point, unavailable online. So I have researched some alternatives for you (SEE LINK BELOW).

The above site offers good products, including the enema buckets and related equipment.  Study the information they have available and it will help you decide if a coffee enema will help you in your detox needs.  They have a useful forum which you can participate in.

If you already know about enemas, maybe have your own enema bucket, you may just want to check out other enema products discreetly. This site may then be useful: ShopInPrivateEnemas.

The Optimal Health program-or any other you opt for- may recommend different supplements but it is important to take the right supplements during the period of the detox, and, as frequently stated in our site disclaimer, consult with your doctor first.

What are the benefits of using a coffee enema?

Kristina Amelong, founder of the Optimal Health Network, says in a YouTube video which you can view above: “By doing coffee enemas along with a rebuilding and cleansing program, I have seen my clients regain their health from fibromyalgia, chronic back pain, prostatitis, intestinal disorders, chemical sensitivities, withdrawal from cigarettes, diabetes and many other health imbalances”.

So one can gather from the above that there are health benefits but that you cannot take the coffee enema in isolation. You need to accompany it with a “rebuilding and cleansing program“. When I did my own detox I was taking a Health Drink, a Cleansing Drink – consisting of 1 glass of distilled water, 1 teaspoon of raw honey and a teaspoon of the appropriate herbal laxative powder to cleanse out the colon, and a Tissue-building drink + other supplements. I will endeavor to cover this more fully in future posts, but consult the Optimal Health network for what supplements and detox programme they advise if you decide to do the detox with coffee enemas.

Also, Dr Ralph Moss PH.D says in his widely read, and oft-reprinted newsletter : “In general, coffee enemas are an important tool for physicians who try to detoxify the body. This is not to say they are a panacea. They certainly require much more research. But coffee enemas are serious business: their potential should be explored by good research—not mined for cheap shots at alternative medicine or derisively dismissed as yet another crackpot fad.

I have found it helped with general well-being, and keeping a persistent hemorrhoid problem at bay.  But note: if you have severe hemorrhoids you should avoid a coffee enema or get a properly adapted tube for the enema bucket.

Who should not use coffee enemas?

The list of those who should not undertake a detox program involving coffee enemas, such as those with heart disease is listed in the previous post Coffee Enemas (1).

What sort of coffee should you use for the enemas?

Do not use de-caff. Use only organic coffee which you can get from clicking on the link below or from ShopInPrivateEnemas and specific health stores.

Natural detox tips:Coffee Enemas (1)

Natural Detoxification using Coffee Enemas

Through suffering from hemorrhoids and experiencing a lot of discomfort through that, I was looking for Natural Detox tips and natural colon cleansing programs (amongst other things) so that I did not need to keep having to look for creams, ointments or pills to alleviate a problem that (I was discovering) had internal origins, and probably caused, or aggravated,  to a large extent by stress and wrong diet choices.

The hemorrhoid problem made me aware of the wider health issues, and realized I had some way still to go in my journey of finding out how to detoxify your body. (You may want to read a previous post on this subject: Toxic food and Natural colon cleansing). By the grace of God, I came in touch with a couple in my church who told me about a great Natural Detoxification  program which they had discovered back home in Singapore. The detox program involved using COFFEE ENEMAS , and they said one additionally needed to go on a special diet whilst detoxing one’s body from TOXINS that had previously built up in the body.

The concept of a coffee enema seemed strange to me, but I knew my friends were reliable people , and their credibility was enhanced by them both having used the products, some of which they shared with me for free to get started. Both of them were in their early 50’s, but looked like early 40-year-olds, and had energy to spare!

Who pioneered the coffee enema detox?

In my research on coffee enemas, I found out that scientists in Germany in the 1920’s had discovered that a caffeine solution could open the bile ducts and stimulate bile production in the liver in animals that were being used in lab experiments. Dr. Max Gerson used this in a clinical situation as part of a general detoxification procedure, initially for T.B, and later for cancer.  Coffee enemas apparently feature in all the most important nursing textbooks throughout the 1950s; and they were listed in the Merck Medical Manual until about 1976.

Dr Gerson was a pioneer for nutritional therapy for cancer and other disease and seems to have had impressive results. You can read more in his book: A Cancer Therapy: Results of Fifty Cases and the Cure of Advanced Cancer.  His theory was that caffeine will travel up the hemorroidal to the portal vein and thereon to the liver itself. He discovered-and documented-some pretty eye-opening effects to this procedure.

He noticed, for example, that patients who began using these enemas no longer needed pain-killers. It also produced a “calming effect”. Coffee enemas can relieve constipation but Gerson did say that their primary purpose “was not given for the function of the intestines but for the stimulation of the liver.”  The dilation of the bile duct has the effect of draining toxins from the liver and increasing the production of an enzyme called G.S.T which helps to remove toxins and free radicals from the blood.

Although there has been derision and criticism of coffee enemas in some quarters, there has been some scientific backing to the above and to Gerson’s theory.  Apart form the Gerson Institute research, apparently Dr Wattenberg and some colleagues in 1981 were able to show that some substances found in coffee do indeed cause an increase in the production of G.S.T.  Then there are the ordinary human testimonies.  Thousands have reported relief or even healing from serious diseases through using programs that include the coffee enema detox, such as Dr Lynn Tan‘s ( she is a Naturopath and Health Seminar speaker) Detoxification and Rejuvenation programme.  When choosing a program it is important to choose one with a reasonable track record, gives clear Coffee Enema Instructions on use, and that also offers or recommends  nutritional supplements as these are needed when doing the enemas.

CLICK HERE for COFFEE ENEMA KITS or try stainless steel enema buckets from Shop in Private-stainless steel is preferred to your normal aluminum pots if you are going to help your liver!.

The above site will provide you with some good products, particularly regarding the enema buckets and related equipment.  I am not able to endorse all their products, which seem to the unacquainted to be slightly “New Age”- such as “color therapy glasses”-but that is because the products I used were from a different company that does not at present sell online, and you are free to pick and choose which products you like anyway.  Read the information on their site carefully and you then can make your own informed decisions.  They have a forum which you will find useful and they give testimonials from people who have said they experienced great relief through their coffee enema detox and Natural Detoxification and colon cleansing programs.

One thing that is advisable is that you cleanse the colon out before doing the coffee enema detox. You are wanting to ensure that the liver and lymphatic system have no hindrance in doing their job. The colon cleansing product we recommend is the Ultimate Colon Cleanse.  If you suffer from heavy metal toxicity then we strongly suggest a product like Heavy Metal Detox first.

Who should not use coffee enemas?

People with certain conditions e.g heart disease, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, diverticular disease, severe hemorrhoids, disease of the blood vessels, congestive heart failure, heart disease, severe anemia, abdominal hernia, gastro-intestinal cancer, recent colon surgery, and intestinal tumours should avoid coffee enemas. Also pregnant women are not advised to use them.
